Ka-29 “Helix-B” was an assault-transport carrier-based helicopter designed by Russia. The project was started in 1973, using Ka-27 shipborne helicopter as a basis for the project, and the first flight was on July 28, 1976, by test pilot E.I.Laryushin. The State acceptance trials were completed in May 1979. Series production started in 1984. Three years later the new helicopter was spotted by NATO observation aircraft abroad the large landing ship "Ivan Rogov".
