The Battle of Chosin Reservoir (Changjin) was fought in Northern Korea in late 1950. This major battle occurred in the rugged mountains around the frozen Chosin reservoir. It was the first significant engagement between the US X Corps and the recently arrived Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA) 9th Army.
One of the contributing factors to the battle was the use of close air support (CAS) by the US Navy and Marine Corps F4U4 Corsairs. These aircraft pounded enemy positions allowing the Marines to retrograde back to safety.
